3 Hbg. City Council Members . . . Out To “Get” Reed
Kill $$$$ Of Funds For City Residents . . .
Vote Against FREE MONEY For City Jobs, Taxes, etc.
THEY SHOULD RESIGN!!

Plain Talk!

Three City Council members have literally been making fools of themselves.

Somehow or other, even in Black History Month, these three people seem to believe that you council.jpg (21761 bytes)have to be Black in order to help Black people, or in order to work in the best interest of the Black population. Nothing could be farther from the truth! Mosten Wright & Stringer have proven this.

These three people, all minorities, have personal agendas that, if they have their way, will do harm to the Black community in the City of Harrisburg.

Shame on all three of them... they should resign!

The people at fault are Councilpeople Sandra Mosten, John Wright, and Patricia Stringer.

Their motives in voting against the KOZ funding from the State and Federal Government were shameful, and their statements are continually embarrassing to the community at large.

Anyone in their right mind knows that Stephen R. Reed has pulled the City of Harrisburg back from the brink of disaster. There was no money for communities, no money for the minority population, no money for housing, and fraud was rampant. Steve Reed was elected Mayor, and with his hard work, and under his brilliant leadership, Things began to change. Nothing happened overnight, obviously, but the City of Harrisburg is a place of HOPE now, a place where employment is available, a place where upgraded housing is available, and where the future looks much better for the children & youth of the City of Harrisburg.

No Common Sense... Just GREED For Power

Mosten, Wright and Stringer want to make it look as if they are the only people with the interest of the minority community at heart. They are wrong ... and the best thing that could happen for the City of Harrisburg would be if ail three would RESIGN their positions on City Council!

Shame on them... shame on Sandra Mosten, shame on Pat Stringer, and shame on John Wright.

Given the behavior of these three people, citizens are asking, “what’s in it for them?” It looks as if  Mosten, Stringer and Wright see “visions of  POWER dancing in their heads.” We hate to tell these three people ... that the way the old Christmas poem goes is, “visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads.” There are no sugarplums for people like this, nor should there be.

These three people are traitors to the ordinary citizens of the City of Harrisburg.

The people of the City of Harrisburg know Steve Reed’s motives, Steve Reed’s concern for them, and Steve Reed’s ability to “come through” in a crunch.

Their vote against the KOZ money that the City of Harrisburg could have had, to provide jobs, tax exemptions, etc. was a disgrace to people... of all color!

Mosten . . . Committee Chairman . . . Knew About KOZ Funding On Jan. 29,2001

Actually, Ms. Sandra Mosten knew about the Keystone Opportunity Expansion Zone (KOZ) as early as January 25. She was supposed to schedule a Committee Meeting As of February 21,2001, Mosten had not scheduled a Committee Meeting. Instead, Mosten tried to pretend that she did not have the facts early enough. Rubbish!

The simple fact is, that in order to make herself look good to the people, and make Steve Reed look bad, Mosten claimed she didn’t have the information. Not only did Mosten have the information, but so did Wright.

What would KOZ have done or the City of Harrisburg? The KOZ (Keystone Opportunity Zone) money would have provided thousands of dollars for the City of Harrisburg ... money that could have built and rehabilitated businesses, created employment opportunities, including ‘Magic Johnson Theatres” on the old U.S. Postal Facility site, and been available for tax credits.

In view of the fact that much of Harrisburg’s property is tax-exempt, (in other words, property owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania), every effort must be made to secure to bring in new business, and to rehabilitate and build new businesses and housing. Evidently Mosten, Wright and Stringer believe that this is their opportunity to try to make a fool of Stephen R Reed. Instead, these three have merely made fools of themselves!

It should be noted that the strength of the KOZ (Keystone Opportunity Zone) application was that the Keystone Opportunity Zone (KOZ) does not increase the percentage on non-taxable property ... but targets Local and State Wage Tax Abatement ... DIRECTLY TO THE RESIDENTS.

Harrisburg’s KOZ residents, those receiving a variety of public assistance for housing, unemployment, food stamps, would have been allowed to retain their wage taxes, directly improving their economic self-sufficiency in household income. Mosten, Wright and Stringer said NO to these people.

People In The City Have Been “Disrespected”

So let’s kill off this ridiculous notion that Blacks always know what best for Blacks. The truth is that sometimes people “shaft’ other people, in order to gain power and “upsmanship”! To put it bluntly the people have been “DISSED” by Mosten, Wright and Stringer! These three City Council people should resign!
